Hi

Driving home from a Bike meet i could smell fuel and someone explosions or pops, on inspection, the fuel line has developed a crack and leaking fuel under my bike and hitting the exhaust, manage to pull over and fix it tho, i am glad i did not caught fire.

It apears that the fuel line i got from the shop to replace the ones thats on the X9 was not up for the job or supplied incorrect:

Iv been running on the old fuel not the new one so would thought be ok, but you mite be right about it may not be suited for these tubes i put on, on that note i have gone and ordered some new tubes to replace the ones that are on there

I’ve had to replace with reinforced nbr hose as original embrittled and failed.

Replaced the worn Avon Viper Stryke boots with Pirelli Angel Scooter. 25K miles used but not abused workhouse from Cov with yearly service for sub-a-grand so happy days. A few scuffs but nowt of consequence. 20mm thick Neoprene sponge bonded to glitzy, reflective Jintan top box with pillion back rest solid bumper lump. Just changed my n/s rear light bulb without removing the rack and top box. No mods to the rear panel hooks performed either and re-installed the 2 x 10mm bolts for rear light integrity so not to rely on the 2 x latch panel/cover screws.

I remember those clear plastic hoses with the cotton weave way back in the 70's and they were useless back then as well. They go stiff and then brittle and on a bike with swinging engine and constant movement they are not flexible enough. Note how the 500 gets around this problem by having the S-shaped hoses that swap sides between pump and injector so they don't actually bend at all but absorb the changing length in the same way a coil spring does. Very clever these Italians!

And heat and UV which accelerates the embrittling process with movement.

I replaced with 6mm ID reinforced NBR to SAE J30 R6 which is robust and fine for E10. 1 metre plus new hose clamps and obviously all the way back to the fuel pump lower rear exit. I re-routed outside the sleeve as I didn't want to damage the feed pipe from the fuel filter to the fuel pump top rear in. Be careful that the side stand pivot doesn't rub so tuck up nicely and secure with cable ties.

The existing lines from the tank to the fuel filter and to the pump seem good and solid as they are fixed and away from the heat. Time will tell.
