MOT
« on: April 23, 2022, 07:38:47 »

Took the X9 in for the test yesterday and it passed as usual, but he insisted on applying a small reflector to the panel above the number plate as he said there wasn't one fitted. I pointed out the ring of reflector around the brake light lens...goes to show how unfamiliarity with these old bikes is starting.

There are some very strange rules on MOTs, the manufactures have to design the bike so the number plate protrudes beyond the rear tyre, then the fashion is to fit a tail tidy to remove the bracket, the MOT inspectors fail the bike because the reflector is missing.

I decided to give my mountain bike an MOT myself today and it's harder work than any scooter. Brake cables sticky, gears not shifting cleanly, loose wheel bearings, all sorts of stuff. It's taken me all day to just get the wheels spinning freely and the brakes to stop them properly but then not to stick on.
It's easier on the X9 and would be even easier if you could tip it upside down like a push bike. Not finished yet though, Donna wants me to do hers now.
Still can't go out on the X9 yet as I need tax and I'm waiting until 1st May or I'll lose three weeks worth as it'll start on 1st April. Next year then it'll have tax when the MOT is due so I can test ride it. This year it was straight out of the garage to the MOT 100yds away, no chance to check anything out properly.
I made the mistake of putting in the new E10 fuel last time out and it doesn't seem to like it. Keeps stalling and popping from the exhaust so I need to run it off then use the proper stuff next time. The Sym seems fine with it.

I get that on MOT too, telling them that the reflector around the brake is an MOY pass as its built in to the brake light
