Do any of you learned members know the reason, and hopefully a cure for a constant (red) imobiliser light ? It does not flash at anytime, on constantly. The scoot starts and runs fine, but if I leave it stood for 1 week the battery is down, maybe needs a new battery, but that does not seem to be why the light is on. Any ideas chaps?.

Has the wiring been tampered with, it's a very strange fault to have the light on all the time even when running. Putting the key in the ignition (do you have the special red key), the aerial at the back of the switch should read the chip and inform the ECU all is good, light should go out and bike is active. It does not seem to be an aerial reading fault, The flashing red lights indicates problems. Could it have been hot wired by a cleaver person. Does the bike start without the key? the LED light will run the battery down, they usually go off after 24 hours on most bikes I've owned. Dave thankfully is on the case for you, I'll be interested in your findings.

Hi Spannerman, The light is on continually, never goes off, never flashes, and if scoot is stood for a few days it has drained enough out of the battery that it won't start till charged again. I have checked all the wiring around the battery area, as far as the tunnel, fuses and wiring looks fine. In the process of checking the digi dash and clocks. There is some re wiring around the brake switches, and one wire from said switch to the brake light assembly, but the rest of the wiring looks ok. I am doing as Dave suggested, even though the inside of the digi dash looks fine and dry I will put it in our airing cupboard, see if it is damp inside. With this imobiliser light on all of the time I dare not ride far from home in case it decides to imobilise the scoot while out on a ride. Thanks for your input, suggestions gladly received.π

Yes I have the red/brown master keyπ Tried the scoot with that, but the light still on continually.π The scoot will not start without the key. Everything else works on the electrics as they should, clocks, dials and lights, except the electric stand.π

Fred, it seems to be doing the reverse of what it should do, red light on it should not start. Dave pointed you towards the sockets and relays, I would disconnect the battery or ignition switch, the red light will go off as it cant work on thin air. Before doing that tap around an relays gently in case one has not made or disconnected properly. I spray silicone spray around micro or brake and stand switches which help the little critters fight against the elements.

The previous owner seems to have kept the fuses and relays clean and smeared with silicone grease, fuses (all of them) are all ok, side stand switch seems to work fine, as soon as I start to put it down it cuts the engine. I have stripped the front body work down, can see the workings in there, not found any horrors, all block connectors are clean and corrosion free.

I split the digi dash case.....looks dry in there. Someone has split it before, as the little pegs that push on the switches to alter the clock, and trip meter are missingπ€ made some new ones, so I will be able to set the clock. Dash is near a radiator drying.

Dried ( was it damp in there?) the digi dash, reassembled it, Fitted it back on the scoot, reconnected the battery.
Still got the imobiliser light on all of the time.π‘

You could remove the wire that feeds the analogue dash LED so the LED doesn't work at all so at least it won't flatten the battery. When the immobiliser is acting normally, after 24hrs the LED stops flashing so as not to drain the battery. Have a look at http://x9ownersclub.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=23630.0 for the wiring between digi and analogue dashes.

Thanks Dave.π I will have 1 more try at finding (in my limited electrician capacity) the cause of the imobiliser light being on all the time. If I do not manage to do that I will snip the wire supplying the light with power, and just hope the imobiliser continues to work as it should, but the flashing imobiliser light would be my prefered option.

Used a meter to find the live feed to the LED, snipped the wire and Hey Presto...it's out.π And the scoot still starts, and all the clocks work. Hope that cures the battery draining.π

If I had time and the patience I would strip the offending wire back through the loom to see where it is picking up a permanent live feed, but that would mean stripping the scoot of all the bodywork to follow the loom, and to be honest I can't be a**ed.π

Pin 5 on Evo, Pin 4 on everything else. No guarantee on these pin outs, the Piaggio documentation is less than 100% accurate. A good battery should last for easily 4 weeks and start no problem.

How strange is that! Pin 4 on my scoot is a black wire (ground?) It was Pin 5 (white) wire that I had to snip. The scoot is 2002, so definitely not a EVO. Anyway, lights out, so I fine with that. Fully charged the battery, let you know how it performs, As I won't be starting it till at least Sunday.
