Decided today, to attend the annual "mods and Rockers" get together at Hunstanton today, but it didn't end up well...

Just near the roundabout at Kings Lynn a car rear shunted me, knocking me off the scoot, and the X10 sliding down the road. The bloke admitted full responsibility, and said that his steering went as he drove over a patch of diesel on the road. The weather was a mix of showers and sun, so I suppose it couldn't be helped...

I came away quite lightly, - my neck just twinges a little, and my wrist is a little bit sore, but the X10 took a bit of a hammering..
So far, as I can see, the windscreen has been ripped off and cracked, my topbox is badly scratched as is the fairing down the left hand side as you sit, including a smashed front indicator and cracked rear indicator and side wind fairing. it was a good job it didn't fall over to the other side where the exhaust is, or else I might not have ridden it home.

The ambulance came and checked me over, and the police arrived and he gave both of us the incident number, and the bloke and I swapped insurance details over. It's deffo an insurance job, as the plastic fairings are a bit of a mess, and as I slowly rode it home ( I have breakdown cover, but it started pissing down, and I didn't fancy waiting for ages by the side of the road waiting for the van to turn up) it felt and handled Ok. If I had been hit from the front, it could have been a different story...

As soon as I've settled down, I'll take pics of the damage, but I need to contact the insurance company and get the ball rolling... looks like the old girl could be off the road for some time, it's a good job, I don't use it for going to work and back I suppose....

Graham
Sorry to hear your woes, I was at that roundabout about 11ish today on the way home having spent a long weekend in Norfolk.

You walked away so that's a +.

Hopefully insurance will be on the ball but in today's world they seem to prefer writing scootsoff than repairing.

Take a few painkillers tonight as tomorrow you will stiffen up trust me

Sorry to hear of your accident but glad you are not badly injured. Judging by parts prices and over inflated labour charges I would be surprised if the insurance company go down the repair route, they tend to just write them off. You may be able to buy it back from them and do the repairs yourself if they do.
Hope that you don't feel worse tomorrow.

Damn sorry about that. Yep unfortunately, drop an X10, LOOTTA body and lights damage, guess how I know!

I presume the ins co will send out a crash damage assessor to look at it? You could be looking at £1,000 for body panels and other affected sticky-out bits, that's what mine added up to. Unfortunately it transpired the frame was bent 3 different ways as well so that was that. Went away on a car transporter.

Your right Mike, it is a BLOODY heavy beast, I can vouch at that. I always struggle to back it up to the garage in an evening! I was glad it never landed on top of me, but threw me off, and slid across the road before coming to a stop on the nearside....

The X10 has been insured for £6700, but if it's going to be a write off, as folks suggest, I doubt very much I'll get that amount.
I had been thinking a while ago about selling it as my partner has developed a spine injury, that's not going to get any better, and I chose the X10 at the time as a decent scooter, which has got plenty of room for her to put her feet, as she wasn't too keen on the pegs for the rear passenger.

To be fair my X10 has behaved faultlessly with hardly any electrical problems or mechanical problems at all, which is unusual seeing as it's Italian! It was always a very comfy ride and very responsive on motorways- I shall miss it. I can honestly say, that has put plenty of smiles  on my face, while clocking up the miles- especially, when I get the "nod" from Bikers, who when seeing me coming towards me on the other side, must think it's a bike, and not a scooter!!

Could be the end of an era for me if they write it off....

watch this space.....

H Graham
Never met you but feel for you.
I had a similar thing about 1970. Was told back then, The bike can be replaced the body can't.
Not nice but good to know you'r OK, that's the main thing.
Regards

He must have been travelling at a fair speed to throw you off and send the bike flying. Never did like the A17! Strange the diesel didn't effect you on two wheels but he on four lost control.
Hope you mend quickly and get a result from your insurance.

Sorry to hear of your crash but glad you're Ok. Despite insurance companies asking you to value your bike, you'll only get market value minus excess, so be prepared for a shock. Hopefully the other party will take care of the excess, and any injury claim. Good luck!

Well, they say bad luck comes in three's - This morning woke up to find the 3 year old dishwater heating element packed up overnight, then I found that my 6 month old tablet which was ruined by rainwater, will cost more to repair than to buy new, and lastly, the insurance company just rang, and said that my X10 is a write off, being as the high costs of parts make it uneconomical to repair... sigh... not been a good week so far....

I've taken photo's of all the bits that were damaged, but I'm waiting on the report from the assessors..

I hate being right.

However do wait for the report and bearing in mind you where shunted from the rear consider frame damage potentially non visible cracks to welds.

More importantly hope you feel OK everything else is just material possessions

Ah that's what I meant.

Took a crash assessor to spot that my frame was twisted, I thought it was leaning right a bit cos mainstand had been knocked wonky, but no, the back end and handlebars were definitely on two different horizontal planes.   A thick bit of metal under right mainstand foot made the handlebars level.

Cheers Derick, I'm fine, can't say that about the X10- I can't believe that a rear shunt going less than 25mph, would cause a write off... The mechanic I spoke to the other day, explained that it was the high cost of the replacement parts and labour that does it. The assessor has the final say on whether it can be fixed or not, but I suppose he'll agree with the mechanic.

If the report does come back as a write off, I could be selling brand new rear and front Michelin city grip tyres, the original front windscreen, and possibly the TomTom SAT NAV holding bracket for the X10 that's knocking around in my garage..

When they wrote off my SL, I received my cheque and then rang the insurers to remind them that I had enquired about buying it back. They said that it would be delivered back to me within a few days with no cost!!!!!! Been using it for nearly 4 years now since then and its still insured through the same firm.

My assessor did go through the motions of "what if". Firstly, is there a workshop in the UK with a jig for a X10 frame, to straighten it out. Highly unlikely due its low sales in the UK. So only somewhere on the continent then. Failing that then, get a new frame, whatever that costs. £800? Pure guess. In either case, then time taking everything off and putting back onto the new or straightened frame. One bloke doing it on his tod, maybe 2 - 3 days, 2 blokes, 1 - 2 days.
