Hi all,

I took my x9 250evo from guildford to dover [ 70mph most the way ] no issues  sat for a week and  on the way back it was sitting 1 or 2  bars above the center line on the temp gauge,
took it easy and temp would fluctuate between half way and just above, [ the faster i rode the more the temp dropped, air flow i guess], apart from that everything seemed ok untill i was 2 miles from home and off the motorway/dual carriageway, it would stutter when i took off, once i was going it felt normal again. but would always stutter when i took off

i have taken the carb off and cleaned  thinking i may have suck in some dirt as i cleaned air filtter before i left and didnt put much oil on it,
but in the process of removing carb i have snapped the small plastic tube coming off the themostat cover,

went to do a compression test, but the battery was dead, just bought a new batt,

questions are ,,,, what could be the cause of the stuttering ?
i might be able to get my hands on a themo cover but its from a x9 500evo,, is this the same as the 250evo?

all advice welcome
kind regards

Weak mixtures can cause slight over heating, but any sign of running hot and I would investigate the cooling system immediately as any lengthy running on an overheated motor can cause terminal mechanical damage. You haven't said if you have checked coolant levels so until the cooling system has been checked and decided it is perfect I have no other suggestions. It also seems weird the battery is dead after such a long run so something is amiss.
Makes me wonder if the thermostat cover had a hairline crack before, and you lost coolant, kept running and have done internal damage. Interesting to see if the motor cranks over on a new battery or is it seized and the current battery isn't flat but incapable of turning the motor over. You must be suspicious of this yourself or why do a compression test?

The 250Evo shares no engine parts with the 500's but it may be similar to the 125 models, not sure though, check the part on Suttons or Fowlers then see what other bikes it's listed as fitting.

Thanks Dave. I had checked the coolant levels when i got home and they were spot on.
Battery is a mystery but the new one turns the motor over now but it doesn't fire. Going to test the thermostat tomorrow.

Thanks again

By the way i seem to be unable to get onto this site using my ip....how do i get this fixed?

What's an ip?
Whatever it is, as we moved servers any stored shortcuts which may have used an IP address rather than the URL will be incorrect. Any cookies too.
Delete any reference to the site or forum in your devices browser cache and history and re-enter the URL again then sign in afresh and then store the bookmark/favourite whatever it is again.
If you can get on with one device but not another the issue is with the device not the site, or you wouldn't get on at all.

Not sure about the 250Evo but the similarities with the 125 and the way the stator coils and water pump sit on top of each other makes me wonder if the stator has failed which also has the trigger for the ignition. A weak spark would produce poor ignition and possibly higher running temps.
Do the usual spark checks while cranking to eliminate this. Then you are back to fuelling issues. Inspect all the fuel lines for perishing, 125's suffer badly so probably so do 250's due to the fuel mix being higher in Ethanol than it was when these bikes were designed.
