Hello x9ers,

Looks my rear shocks need replacing. d drove with a pilon today and they felt super soft. Also I noticed a tiny crack just below the adjustment ring...I hae a good look on the forum and could not find all the info I need...

-Anybody has the exact dimensions for rear shocks?
-Would an aftermarket 365mm do the job or too short?
-What about this one => http://www.racing-planet.co.uk/shock-absorber-forsa-honda-forza-p-174729-1.html#.VwwEMlQrLIU

Thanks!

It looks about right with correct end fittings and the web page gives all the necessary dimensions so the best way is to head out with a tape measure and see what you have fitted now. Length measurement is bolt centre to bolt centre not overall length. You can measure it on the centre stand as the shockers are at full stretch then and under no load. It's a doddle to swap them over.
365 is 10-15mm too short for a 500 but is OK, but each model uses different length units, they aren't common.

…well, they look OK, I ordered them and hopefully will receive them before the week end.

I’ll let you know how it goes + will post exact measurement of the 250SL shocks for reference.

I measured mine, hole centre to centre, and mine was 400 mm. Having scoured the net, the shocks that fit a Honda sh 300i look pretty damn close, though may need some spacers for the top mount. I've ordered some RMS ones from Italy,  I'll let you know if they'll fit as a direct replacement.

I eventually ordered honda foresight ones - they look pretty similar in shape and dimensions and cost just under £100 for the pair.

I'll fit them next week end and will let you guys know how it goes

These are the ones I ordered, http://www.ridewill.it/p/en/rms-204550702-shock-absorber-honda-sh-300-07-12/53441/, they're about 55 pounds delivered,  hopefully they'll be pretty good, can't be any worse than the original ones that are on mine at the mo   ::

Keep the adjusters well oiled twice a year and move them occasionally.

Mine were like it, with the adjusters on both sides cracked, when I bought two weeks ago, good advice though.

When the adjusters get corroded on the inside the rust expands and cracks the alloy rings. If the rings aren't cracked initially, any attempt to turn them if they are jammed cracks them. It's dangerous to use them in this condition as the rings support the springs and could collapse.
Squirt some thin oil and WD40 down inside the bottom spring seat and work the adjusters around a few times until you can see the oil drizzling down past them, then wipe them clean.

OK Chaps - just changes my shocks today

The ones for the foresight are a perfect fit on the bottom (fork) but needs some tweaks on the top (eye): Bit smaller than the original so some spacers did the job but also, the distance between the eye and the top of the shocks is shorter so I needed to cut a small piece of metal to make a perfect fit for the left one - pix to follow soon.

The ride is much smoother especially with a pillion!

I listed my old shocks on the bay (Item# 371621151938) if anyone can refurbish them - they are not perfect otherwise I would not have changed them but if you're interests, drop me a PM, I'm open to offers.

cheers!

Tight but not excessively. You are lucky in that you have hex head bolts so can actually get them tight, where as the 500 uses allen socket mushroom head bolts that can only be slid in from the inside and the nut is up between the frame flange and a skin of the seat tub so you can't use a socket only a spanner and an allen key so it's not possible to really get them massively tight.
