Regards Andy Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: jimc on May 11, 2009, 11:41:29 The good thing about Carole Nash is that EU-wide recovery and breakdown insurance is included in the price.
Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: Big Ears on May 11, 2009, 11:42:40 Many of us use Carole Nash - but note tht CN has recently become part of the Norwich Union Group.
Not always the cheapest, but one of the better - especially if you travel in Europe. Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: gravyonmychin on May 11, 2009, 16:46:59 I think Swinton were basically saying they would rather not insure you when they give such a ridiculous overthetop quote.
Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: andypandyere on May 11, 2009, 19:32:42 Thanks Guys for the reasurance, i thought i had seen a few posts that carole Nash was used by some members, it was a bit OTT of swinton, specially as i am 46yrs old....

Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: joyce on July 12, 2009, 16:32:25 To be honest they usually all use the same actual insurance people such as Red Star. If you want just a basic insurance you may as well go for the cheapest - if you want extras such as legal cover/breakdown you may have to look deeper.
Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: Dave Milnes on July 12, 2009, 18:15:37 That's true, nearly every policy I have had both for cars or bikes is with Equity Red Star regardless of who I bought the policy through.
The difference in premium is down to the brokers mark up. Getting the broker to bundle a breakdown cover to seal the deal usually swings it. Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: jimc on July 12, 2009, 18:46:30 If you can get a policy with NIG as the underwriter, grab it! The one time I had to resort to insurance all was sorted by them sending one letter to me, and my taking that to the repairer of my choice. Couldn't have been easier from my POV. :)
Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: joyce on July 12, 2009, 19:07:26 The Red Star allowed me to use my own dealer. Carole Nash take your bike to Altrincham and they deal with repairs - I know which I prefer.
Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: durbanite on July 14, 2009, 07:13:25 Thank all for the info', was told yesterday to Keep Away from Norwich Union or any company that is under the umbrella of this company.
Also any pointers to which Break down / recovery to look at ? Thanks Roy Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: Dave Milnes on July 14, 2009, 08:00:58 Breakdown cover needs careful looking at. Sometimes the ones bundled are simply roadside pickup to the nearest garage, others will forward you to a destination of your choice.
Some use a local recovery within 20 miles of home yet quote an AA/RAC on the policy but that's only when you are on a motorway or more than 20 miles from home. Mines an RAC yet they used a local garage after my accident last year, then again it wasn't a repair I needed just transport home and they were quick arriving. Homestart isn't worth bothering with, after all if you are at home, you aren't stranded without tools. European cover is OK if you travel abroad but again make sure it covers accident/illness recovery not just mechanical breakdown repair. Anything is better than nothing, but the AA/RAC will offer the highest level of cover, but the top option isn't always the one on offer when it comes 'free'. Some policies state a 'bike aware' transport used for recovery which is always a good idea as sometimes the big companies are so 'car' orientated they aren't rigged up to transport bikes. Red Star also allowed me to quote and repair my own bike and simply paid me a cheque within a month or so of submitting a part list and prices. Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: philmel on July 15, 2009, 05:58:45 :) I would like to remind everyone to be very sure that Norwitch Union or Aviva are not a good idea under any circumstances ;)
Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: Chris Salter on July 16, 2009, 07:12:32 Morning all, I am also looking for renewal of the insurance...any sound advise please where to look now, last year was cover through LEXHAM full Comp' and Break Down recovery at £184.99. Have over 8 years NCB and clean licence + over 55, so any pointers please ? Have done a search on the new confused.com site and if any one is interested in the findings and thereby advise pro and con's I tried AA who found Equity Red Star for me at £110 which includes legal cover for claims and a hire bike while yours is getting repaired. If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident, like I was, this service was well worth having . I am 58, and ride a 500 evo. I have always paid around the 100 quid mark since I was 50 yrs old.( 50 years young, even!) Chris. Edited by Big Ears: New post had been placed within the quote. Now extracted. ;) Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: durbanite on July 16, 2009, 13:05:40 Can only say a big thank you for this information from all of you. Also learnt / found out yestreday that if you are in any, yes any Tesco store that has it's own parking and you break down using a vehicle 2 or 4 wheels there-in, customer service will call out the RAC to sort out your break down for free...it's a contract between themselves for the customers !
Title: Re: X9 500SL Insurance Post by: joyce on July 16, 2009, 14:34:07 That is worth knowing - thanks.
