Finally got round to fitting my Garmin Zumo to the X10

After great deliberations I was unable to use the integral power plug under the handlebar cover ( 12V and unidentifiable plug type) , or the full Garmin power lead (Would probably have to remove lots of front end bodywork to feed wire up to handlebar level).

I ended up joining a USB cable and the Garmin plug. Quite a delicate operation as the USB power wires are very fine. Covered with heatshrink, and has successfully survived installation so will hopefully be OK. Means I can use the X10 USB socket in the left hand cubby hole and feed plug through hinge space to come out through space in handlebar cover when black centre cover is removed. I have a helmet mounted Interphone unit to hear nav instructions over Bluetooth.

I used the Piaggio mounting kit with an extra RAM ball and socket under the Garmin mount. Quite fiddly and requires careful planning as plug wire has to be fed through before different stages of attaching parts

Been using the setup for a couple of weeks now. Garmin is positioned a bit lower than I would have liked, but getting used to it. Adding the extra RAM ball and socket plates between the Piaggio and Garmin mounts has raised it a bit, and allows adjustment to any angle. Using a Y USB adaptor in the left hand cubby hole USB socket means I still have another USB socket available for use.

I have been using it on my 55 mile commute. I know the route well anyway, but its handy to have ETA showing, and handy to have GPS speed reading. 80 mph on the Piaggio speedo equals 74mph on Garmin, more of a difference than I was expecting. I am now cruising at this speed, as opposed to my previous speedo indicated 75mph!

My Tom Tom Rider has a very good speed camera database with community updates of mobile vans.
