Post by: dobo on October 16, 2009, 08:11:16
just been quoted for three hours work for replacing the the under seat cable at £45 per hour,I already have the cable so there was no cost for the cable, just labour. Think i just settle for wire thats there now!

Yes it's fiddly but not a job requiring any expertise.
Remove the saddle and tank top panel, lower and upper rear side panels and the little panel that covers the catch (rack top cover half if you have OEM rack) and remove all the screws around the glovebox panel edge and the big one centrally inside so the panel can be eased backwards to get your hand behind.
That's it really. Unhitch the old cable at each end and remove it noting it's route and clipping and fit the new one.
It's fiddly getting the bullet into the lever but once done the jobs a doddle. Adjust the rear clamp stop (probably removed from old cable) so the lever has a little free play before tripping the catch. Test it by using a screwdriver shaft in the catch to simulate the seat latch.
