Title: 250 Evo X9 2005 Post by: Lengthofwire on August 16, 2009, 17:23:02 Can someone give me answers to a few questions?
I have recently acquired a low mileage Evo 250 X9, 2005. It came without an Owners Handbook and, as has been said elsewhere on this Forum, replacements are virtually impossible to come by. I have obtained one, albiet rather scruffy, that purports to be for the 125 or 250, yet the oil change intervals, for the 250, appear to be every 12,000kms (7,500miles) which is at odds with figures posted on this Forum. Hence, there are a few questions to which I would like answers, because my "Handbook" appears to be unreliable: - 1. What is the oil change interval for this model and where does that info come from? 2. Is this engine a Quasar or Honda? 3. Is this engine fuel injected or carburetted? 4. Is the air filter re-used, or replaced, a point the is ambiguously coverd in this manual? Any definitive advise would be deeply appreciated. As of last year though all fuel injected engined models had this extended to 6,000 mile (10,000km) changes and 3,000 inspections. The handbooks for the newer bikes reflected this but for the older bikes they obviously don't. The 250 Evo is not injected so remains at 4,000 mile changes. 2. It's a Quasar if it has the indicators in the mirrors. The 2 things go together. Early 250 Honda pre-Evo units had rubber stemmed small mirrors. 3. Carb. The later MP3's and I think the XEvo are injected but the X9 is definitely carb. 4. 125 and 250 SL and 250 Evo have a re-oilable foam gauze all 400/500 models a paper element. Why if an engine has a carb does it need the oil changing at 4,000 miles yet if injected can go to 6,000 I don't know unless it's simply down to cleaner burning and therefore less contaminants leaching into the oil.
