I am going to have to take Thor into Bikers today

I know that they couldn't find anything last time but I am desperate.

Took the bike in, the mechanic rode it and it happened to him too

They were discussing it and they think it might be the ECU, what ever that is

So I am bikeless yet again

ECU, that'l be mekanik talk meaning 'European Currency Unit', (being Italian) which means if it wasn't under warranty it'd be mighty expensive to repair
Hope they find the problem this time   Did you get a lift back from bikers or did you have to wait hours for a bus that wasn't going in the right direction like happened to me last time

Ecu, is the little computer to make the engine work, it is a little black box, so they tell me

Tony at JT's said that he would have diagnosed the same thing so hopefully it will be fixed this time

It's all under warrenty so I don't have to pay for it which is a blessing.

Dave (one of the owners) gave me a lift into Southampton city centre as he was going to Shirley, then got a taxi home, managed to scrounge a raffle prize off him for our fund raising event

Just hope Thor isn't there for too long

They still can't find anything wrong with it, the ECU was fine, they phoned Piaggio and they offered a few tips, but nothing

They are going to have another look tomorrow and if they can't find anything wrong then they are going to ask someone from Piaggio to come down and have a look for themselves

Ask them for a new bike. Sale of goods act states that goods sold must be fit for their intended purpose which this bike isn't. You have followed the consumer laws by letting the dealer try twice to fix it and they can't, therefore you are legally entitled to a replacement, or the whole of your money back.
Wait too long and you forefeit this right.

Hi Julie,

Dave is quite right,  enough is enough.  I have had two 'rogue' bikes from Piaggio in the past.  Both were replaced without too much hassle, when I insisted on it, one by the dealer, and one after the matter had been referred to Piaggio.

I sincerely hope that this experience will not put you off the Evo 500?  The build quality on them is generally excellent, and the bike itself an absolute gem.  As i'm sure you have gathered through this site, serious problems are very few and far between.

Take a printed sheet from a website with your rights listed, highlight the relevant one.

That way they have it in black and white.

Julie, Im sorry you are still having problems, what puzzles me is if the have eliminated the ECU, that means they fitted a replacement and it still stalls, in which case how come they can't find anything wrong with the bike? If the bike isnt stalling with the new ECU fitted, how do they know the ECU wasnt faulty?

I spoke to one of the bosses at Bikers and he recommended I write an e-mail to Piaggio, he gave me the name of someone who I think has a lot of clout there.

E-mail has just been sent so now it is a case of waiting

I now have the bike back and it is working again..... for the moment, I stated in my e-mail that if it were to happen again then I would be asking for a replacement or refund

Alan, they ran a dianostic on the ECU and it came back as clear, there weren't even any stored faults. They said that if it is an intermittant problem then the faults would be stored and would show up on the diagnostic check

So they didn't swap it out then... (I don't know if swapping the ECU is a simple thing.)

Take JT up on his offer and let Tony and Dobbin loose on it. If they can't fix it then a replacement is worth negotiating.

The thing is, its riding normally now, not a problem

It was about 6 weeks in between the two incidents last time so only time will tell and hopefully I will hear back from Piaggio

Hows things?When does your warranty finish?or if the warranty does finish and the scooter plays up will any work still be done on a warranty basis as its an existing fault.....if you see what i am babbling on about.I am guessing it would be or should be done FOC.

That's a valid point Steve. I had a fault on a Vauxhall Agila that was looked at under warranty but the Vauxhall dealership was unable to find the fault, it was an intermittant knocking at the rear. Suggestions were made that it was the fuel tank flexing, the exhaust knocking or maybe a joint that was drying out and creaking. This went on for the duration of the warranty coming and going sometimes with months in betweeen. Finally I went back after the warranty ended for another look, bearing in mind that they said that it would be cared for F.O.C. as it was an ongoing problem, they then said that I would have to pay. I sold the car and bought a different brand.

Julie, did they do anything at all whilst it was in other than check it over?  I'm not knocking the dealer as I know an intermittant problem is hard to deal with. It just means you cannot fully enjoy the bike as you are constantly waiting for it to happen again. I would still take up JT's offer of letting look at it whilst it is running enough to get it there.

I had a similar problem with an ET and ended up selling it for a pittance to the shop who were struggling to repair it - I just wanted to get rid of it at that stage (it was out of warranty).
