The present 2003 250XL X9 is delightful and no slouch as has the Dr. Pulley upgrades, however I want a little more top end and 2-up cruising ability. Currently 80 and 70 2-up with 60 a nice cruising number too. I’m sure an X10 would be faster and better and even more stable. What do others who’ve made the jump think, please ?

Gold E46 ragtop and Fiat Coupe 16VT are my current/most recent brum-brums. 61 and won't grow up. Acquired the 2003 250SL on 6th June 2021 and so far have lifted the screen to height position 3 and replaced the OEM seized shockers with YSS jobbies with 2 chunky washers each side of the replacement units+original spacer on preload 2/5. Replaced the worn Avon Viper Stryke boots with Pirelli Angel Scooter. 25K miles used but not abused workhouse from Cov with yearly service for sub-a-grand so happy days. A few scuffs but nowt of consequence. 20mm thick Neoprene sponge bonded to glitzy, reflective Jintan top box with pillion back rest solid bumper lump. Just changed my n/s rear light bulb without removing the rack and top box. No mods to the rear panel hooks performed either and re-installed the 2 x 10mm bolts for rear light integrity so not to rely on the 2 x latch panel/cover screws.

The X10 350 was without a doubt the best Piaggio I have owned. Performance and general on road abilities were excellent. It had two areas which you could find troublesome on older machines. The fuse box exposed from beneath can be a major problem, and the retaining pins for the brake pads can seize in place and be very difficult to remove due to the small size of their internal hexagon sockets. As with many Italian brands their electrics don't cope well with our wet weather.

The 350 X10 is much nicer han the 500 version, which can feel rough apparently. And it has a multi-plate wet clutch! Very smooth in operation. 80 mph should be doable.

+ What roadster said! I also found the caliper pistons were seizing up on the 2nd hand one I had. On the later new one, these were also greased, and the pad retaining pins removed and greased, and the fusebox hole stopped up. On the first, 2nd hand, one, one of the relays had to be bodged up to make work with extra wiring because that part of the fusebox base where the socket was, was corroded.

Update is that the 250SL is staying. It has set a very high mid-maxi-scooter bar. Even 2-up it's very adequate, capable, competent, safe and stable. I did find the 350 X10 a lovely tool but felt almost too low-slung.

I loved my X9250SL for 10 yrs, did motorcycle courier job on it, did long distance touring on it, did pillion on it and still held a steady 70-80mph, did wonderful 75mpg.

The killer that made me sell it and just ride my X9 500SL was the parts, once the silencer was rotted i couldn't find another then the carb needed replacing which is hard to find one for the X9 250SL.
The rear shock absorbers was easy to find brand new after market ones and other X9 parts are inter changeable.

But the Killer for the X9250SL is :

Silencer
Carburettor

I have a Brand new been used X9250SL original Factory silencer in a box that i grabbed off ebay after i sold my X9 250SL.

''How many Left'' .com State , 109 X9 250 left.

Use mine probably at least once a week this time of year and still love it despite a yearly 'fix' with JB Weld Extreme Heat plus a glaze of black HR gloss enamel paint, where the pipe goes into the silencer. Can't really justify an X10 as the X9 is so good and also got a '71 Mk.3 T500 Titan too now.
