Good, I just wish I had the time to go out much on mine. Working from home I don't need to commute and with the lake district 10 minutes away you would think I'd be out a lot, but just not had time for rides out.

I am trying to find a dealer who can tweak the X9 idle and mixtures as it's dropped too low and keeps stalling. I have changed the injector, fuel pump, air filter, coil and HT lead, plug and checked and cleaned everything to no avail. I thought it was E10 fuel but after a load of fuel treatment and a fresh tank of E5 it's not much better. Runs really well, just stalls after idling a while. I think I found Cheeky Thomas who used to post on here so sent him an email to see what he suggests, otherwise it's a trip to Blackburn, Leeds or Newcastle to a Piaggio dealer. Preference is for Newcastle as it's by far the nicest ride to get there. I bought the MaxSym 600 a couple of years ago and then there were not many Sym dealers, but now all the local bike shops sell and service them, but Piaggio dealers are a rare beast!

Not as simple as turning a screw, I take it? Some modern bikes now have idle control valves (ICV), like cars. Both my Guzzi V7 850 and AJS Cadwell have them. The Guzzi's one can be varied to compensate for low battery charge, which is interesting. (i.e., a deliberate fast idle.) The AJS's throttle body does have a set screw for the throttle butterfly, but is extremely tight or maybe it's thread-locked or crimped or somesuch so obviously mustn't fiddle (else slapped legs!) Certainly on earlier injection Guzzi's with the twin throttle bodies there is 'The Sacred Screw' that must never be altered or else it's totally stuffed up.

When I first got my Aprilia Atlantic 500 it used to cut out, turned out to be a crimped return wire from the rectifyer.

On the 500 the throttle body stop screw is a special type that needs an odd tool to turn and it's not recommended to do so. The idle speed is goverened by an air bypass port regulated by a stepper motor controlled by the ECU. There are no crimped wires as the seat bucket has just been out and the looms all peeled back and they are all neatly clipped up. A 'short' on a feed from the stator could cause issues as it's an un-fused AC source prior to getting to the regulator. It could affect the 'grounding' to the frame or at least the resistance between + and ground which may affect the ECU.

Piaggio dealer in Leeds is ok but i hear loads of problems, and when i had my X9 in the Leeds dealer it came out with a few convenience problems and make it go back avoid.
Can you not plug in a OBD type reading in to the Piaggio Hook up plug and use a Laptop / PC to adjust the idle that way?, there is a wire on the 500 thats on the left side some kind of diagnostics plug that piaggio dealers hood up to tweek and adjust things on the 500 even remap the ecu with it.
you could buy the piaggio diagnostic plug adapter and plug it in to adjust the idle ?
some videos online that shows whats needed

It is done via the three pin socket near the PICS sockets but none of the diagnostic tools you can buy can flash the ECU to make actual adjustments, only the Piaggio Digitek that dealers have can do it.

I had the same problem on my 500. I cleaned the inside of the throttle body all around the butterfly valve, there was quite a lot of gunk there. After that the tickover returned to normal and no more stalling. Maybe worth a try?

Maybe going to Newcastle dealers but might leave it now until next spring.

Yes Mo-Tech and Vespa World on Shield Rd near Byker. Probably leave it now until next April as I would like it sorted before Scotland in June.
