What should i put in my X9

Hello, X9ers.

with getting back into Biking I have managed to burn off the 2 yr old petrol in my tank, now time for a refill, I avoided the E10 and put in the premium petrol, X9 ran a bit better and power-wise she is spot on no lag.

Now the premium is expensive, 14lt I put in cost me at local station £1.53PL , Should i use the E10 petrol, i have heard bad stories, i have already replaced my fuel lines before storage 2 years go, so there fitted with Heavy-duty fuel lines after my old original factory ones cracked.

I don't want to kill the X9 she has lasted 21 years, is this new fuel safe on my sold X9 250SL?

A bit of a grey area here, the advisory blurb says Piaggio is not compatible with E10, yet Honda are ok with it.
My X9 has the Honda engine but I'm playing safe and using super unleaded. (My car is a Rover and that is a no no so I have to pay the price)
 Another problem with E10 is that it degrades after a short time so you could end up with water in the fuel if you leave it standing.

That’s interesting,this was a subject we discussed at our breakfast meet last Saturday,i am not an everyday user of my Honda Forza and i have read somewhere else about E10 degrading and turning to water,it was suggested to shake the bike before starting it,if left unstarted for 4 weeks, i am normally out on the bike on a Saturday and Sunday,but this time of year weather may put a stop to that,my fellow bikers at the breakfast table thought i was bonkers when i said i shake the bike to mix the fuel if left for a few weeks(unchained knows the culprits i was with)

I don't know a lot about E10 fuel apart from it contains more ethanol than unleaded and is supposed to degrade quicker than unleaded over time if left in the tank. It only replaced unleaded at the pumps a few months ago so only time and personal experience  will tell

A simple solution at this time of year is go out for a decent long ride on your scooter and use up any stale fuel, fill up with fresh fuel and at the next convenient opportunity go out and do it again. I doubt very much if not riding for a few weeks will cause major problems.

If anyone is really concerned they can add a dose of fuel stabiliser to a full tank.

New bikes/scoots should have Etanol E10 compliant fuel lines , however old uns wont. Example the then hardly used Aprilia Mille I had wouldnt start and I realised the fuel pump wasnt priming, after taking a chance on a used one that bolted into the back of the petrol tank , it was a tad difficult getting at the pipes into and out of the tank inlet outlet, in fact broke came away in my hand so I fitted new, metal mesh braided ones. Job done.
That bike went as did a project Kawasaki ZZ1 that needed a new fuel pump, which was a much easier job and some braided lines too, it started on the button.
Sadly health issues have overtaken me and I will no longer be able to ride bikes, sic Gilera Nexus thread.
