Gina shares the current stable with Nelly (Tornado 900). Had a Vespa 150 Super when I was 18 and my dad courted on a Maicoletta. 2 wheels are in my blood as I'm also a Time Trialist and general headcase. Gold E46 ragtop and Fiat Coupe 16VT are my current/most recent brum-brums. 61 and won't grow up. Acquired the 2003 250SL on 6th June 2021 and so far have lifted the screen to height position 3 and replaced the OEM seized shockers with YSS jobbies with 2 chunky washers each side of the replacement units+original spacer on preload 2/5. Replaced the worn Avon Viper Stryke boots with Pirelli Angel Scooter. 25K miles used but not abused workhouse from Cov with yearly service for sub-a-grand so happy days. A few scuffs but nowt of consequence. 20mm thick Neoprene sponge bonded to glitzy, reflective Jintan top box with pillion back rest solid bumper lump. Just changed my n/s rear light bulb without removing the rack and top box. No mods to the rear panel hooks performed either and re-installed the 2 x 10mm bolts for rear light integrity so not to rely on the 2 x latch panel/cover screws.

Love this bloomin’ thing. Way different riding style-wise compared to Nelly. Gina’s a keeper. A lot more stable than my 1978 teen years (18) Vespa 150 Super and surprisingly spritely. New shocks and front boot made a helluva difference. The 250SL is almost a well-kept secret ..

Good to hear Rob, you may want to consider upgrading to DrPulley sliders next time you have the variator off, they made a huge difference to my old SL, stops the requirement to time overtaking manoeuvres to perfection. Bob

I had the X9 500 and the X9 250 Evo and an X9 125 and my best and one i keep is the X9 250SL Its the only one without an immobilizer Saves key and Ecu problems when they go funny or lose key and the only one i found to be the best out of the X9 range for reliability when properly maintained.

Another clean ticket for Gina until 19/11/23 and only 446 miles since the last one. Can take a few prods to start from cold though despite me upping the idle speed. I use E5 to obviate carb-gumming so maybe time for a shot or two of Redex.

I'd be interested in an Easy Option for getting the rear panel off, to get to the battery, with minimum Arsing about!

Trim the lugs so that when the bolts are out the panel can be slipped up enough to clear the lower panel. It's years since I did it but I think that's right. Pictures here: https://www.x9gallery.co.uk/home/displayimage.php?album=6&pid=51#top_display_media

As above but also wire up some extensions to the battery poles with bullet connector ends so you charge in-situ via separate wires (with a matching bullet end) from the underseat area.

Thanks to both. I'll, hopefully, get to the garage this afternoon and have a play.

Trim bit by bit so you get it so a flat screwdriver under and gently prize it up is enough, but it doesn't come off too easily and fall off! The top two can be quite short, the lower ones a little longer as the screws hold the top in place.

First ride on two wheels since returning from ‘wintering’ in Brisbane and Gina was a doll for 50 odd miles of mixed roads. Pirelli Angels F30/R34 inspire confident switchback cornering. Maybe time to say goodbye to the nut job Benelli Tornado 900
