Hi to all.
A query please, with regard to the rear suspension -swinging arm assembly on my 2007 X8 250.

I have read a number of posts, (these may though, on second thoughts, have been for the X9?), where there have been issues with 'play' or excessive movement as a result of worn bushes/bearings in the lower suspension swinging arm, part of which bolts to the engine, the other section onto the frame. Citing a lack of grease applied at the factory during the manufacturing process, or perhaps a a result of 'jet washing' the machine? Either way, a lot of hassle it would appear to rectify.

I have recently bought my X8, 2007 model,  It has around 14km recorded, and (thankfully!), no play apparent, and all that linkage looks good, with no rust, corrosion etc, The large 'Silentblock' bush on the L/H side looks okay too, albeit, some signs of perishing, but nothing serious.   As i have the machine currently in the shed for a good clean, having removed all the body/floor panels etc, i have more access to the suspension, and thus i am wondering, A... Does this model have needle bearings in the linkage?, and a steel sleeve/pin, which can be removed for greasing, If so is that an engine out job?, or can i (ideally!), perhaps support the engine to get the bits out?. or B...Are the bushes steel/rubber instead?, which then is a case of periodic checking, and replacing when worn?, Again, if that is the case, Is that an engine out job too?, and something an amateur mechanic can undertake?.  All answers and advice gratefully received. Many thanks.

I'm not sure exactly what the design is, but 250's generally don't seem to suffer the failure of the bearings as much as 125's. Whether the design is beefed up I don't know, but the adage 'if it ain't broke don't fix it' comes to mind and I'd leave it alone. You cab usually chock the motor and remove the swing arm if you have stripped off all the plastics. The X9 250 Evo manual might be of some help as it's the same unit. Look at P245 on here http://www.wotmeworry.org.uk/manuals/Piaggio%20X9/X9%20250%20Evo/X9250Evo%20Manual.pdf
