Hi guys.Question regarding immobilizer on x9 evo 500,tonight when I took out the key the red light did not start flashing. Then it would not start and when I took out the key each time the light was not flashing, after nearly flattening the battery it kicked into life and when I took out the key the red light started to flash,is there a position the key has to be in before removing, what did I do wrong.the only key I have has a blue centre,

The LED should start to flash as soon as you turn off the ignition with the key still in the lock. The key shouldn't come out until it's in the ignition off or steering lock on positions.
It's unusual for the LED not to start flashing, it's more common for it not to stop flashing.
Treat it carefully as if the immobiliser develops a fault and you do not have the brown master key you could be in for a very large repair bill.

got scooter started ,blew LH tail light bulb,(this bulb was out when I purchased the scooter, cleaned up the connection and bulb holder before replacing the bulb, did not remove any of the clips for cleaning as looked ready to corrode through light has worked until I had this starting issue)now I hear mention of a fuse located near this bulb and as the scooter only ran for a few seconds after changing this bulb and now will not start im hoping the fuse/corrosion is my problem, where around the LH tail light is this fuse located.

Right in the bottom LH corner of this pic is the end of a little set of 4 fuses under 2 flip up covers.
To get a proper look at them you need the painted panel removing so you can see the wires going up into the fuse holders.

1- 5A centre stand control box
2- 10A ignition coil
3- 3A Immobiliser Decoder
4- 5A Kill switch relay actuation/ECU

hi .found the fuse box from the pics you put up. fuses were 3A,3A,5A and 7.5A. the 7.5A was quite badly corroded so clean up and replaced all the fuses with the size that was in already.theory being that it was working ok before it stopped, charged up the battery and the scooter kicked into life once more.I have found that when I switch of the ingnition if the little red light does not flash then no start until the light does flash, then starts first time.could this be the Ariel having a weak signal,if so were is it located and given that I do not have the brown master key can I still replace the Ariel without the expense involved regarding a new master key.phew!!.

Yes you can replace the aerial without a master key but it is the limit of what you can do without it.
The correct sequence when turning on the ignition is a long flash followed by two (or more depending on the total number of keys coded) short flashes then it should go out. The engine should start immediately without waiting for this signal as the actual electronic triggering is instantaneous, only the 'human' slowed tell tale lags behind. There should be a constant flash every second with the ignition off, but after 24hrs it stops to save power but the ignition on sequence still shows.

Not sure about the Aprilia but the 500Evo and all the 125 models use the same item. It's just a plastic ring that clips over the ignition barrel just behind the legshield/glovebox with a stiff cable about 1 foot long with a white plug on the end that connects to the decoder. 58200R around £10 + VAT.
It's a bit of a fiddle to swap as you need to ease the glovebox panel backward an inch or so then reach round behind and unclip the aerial. It's necessary to remove the saddle and tunnel top panel then take off the front fairing completely then after removing the big screw above the seat levers and the two self tappers at the top near the handlebar cover, you can pull the panel backwards and from above at the front wriggle the aerial off and back on.
If you had a master key you could first simply plug in a new aerial to the decoder, hold the master key against it and turn on the ignition with the other key and if all worked properly, you know the new aerial has fixed the fault before going to all the bother of dismantling everything.
