Rear footrests for X7 250

Has anyone improved their rear footrests on the X7?
My wife does not like the original set-up. The chamfered rear edges and narrow width make her adopt a pidgeon-toed posture and she fears that her feet are not secure.
I made up some extensions to bolt onto the single screw that holds the footboard at the rear but there seems to be too much flexure if I put my weight on them.
I think that just squaring off the rear face and widening by about 25mm would do and I have a design in mind, just wanted to avoid re-inventing the wheel if someone had already done something.
If not, I'll try my idea and send details if it works.
