The workshop manual states 5W-40 synthetic but I notice that my X7 250ie has been filled with 10W-40 semi-synth. at its previous service.
Does anyone use 10W40 semi-synthetic in their X7 or does anyone know if it has caused any problems?
The reason I ask is that I use 10W40 semi in my NTV650 Revere and it would be easier to stick to one grade.
I change engine oil more frequently than the service intervals so long life isn't an issue and I am not trying to penny-pinch, just want to get it right when I change the oil.
Any advice most welcome.

5W difference is negligible, it's just a tad thicker when cold and semi synth is nearly as good as fully synth but a lot cheaper. Just change it at or before the correct mileage and not be tempted to leave it any longer. Semi synth just hasn't got the longevity of fully synth but still far superior to mineral.

I bought this X7 privately from Blackpool and I grew up(some say I never did grow up) in the Fylde.
