Hi
Is it correct that the Givi does not allow full opening of the boot but the original Piaggio rack & box does?
I'm wondering if I could buy the Piaggio rack and then a Givi box to save cost.
The other thing I've noticed is that wherever I look on the web they are always the same price.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you have the opening boot as well as the saddle, the Piaggio rack pivots up so lifting the box above the open boot lid. Other racks are fixed so the boot only opens part way limiting the ability to load long items. The downside to the Piaggio rack is it sits the box up high and has a huge ugly hand wheel to unlock the pivot which also needs constant lubrication and usage and also the contents of the box get up-ended. Benefits and drawbacks to both depending on your needs and opinions.

Only the piaggio lifts up and over and it's not the prettiest thing you can get a givi box on it but if your going as far as oem bracket might as well get the oem box I have seen a givi type on a xevo looked like it was hinged somehow as it was bouncing like a goodun as it was going down the road
The oem is as rare as rocking horse **** as a secondhand buy any that come up on ebay go for silly money and you already know the cost of a new un as dave says it's gonna be a pain in the arse to live with I think that's why they gave us a boot that you can't fit a lid in ::

I have a Piaggio X8 OEM rack that lifts up for sale if you are interested. I am not sure if it is the same so you would need to check first if it would fit.

Don't have the box I'm afraid

Thanks for all the help guys but I've just realised I think I won't be able to leave my back rest on if I fit a top box.
I really want to keep it

Why? Surely a top box becomes the back rest so you wouldn't need it.

Just so happens I've gotten one on the bike I just brought over from Venice... I've tried to unlock the pivot but it doesn't seem to allow the box to move more than a few cm , I don't have a manual but is there some way to open it properly ? Thanks.

Never mind , worked out - have to push in the huge knob thing at the appropriate moment... amazing storage space available now.
