Author Topic: X8 125 rear wheel seized on  (Read 12522 times)

I have now taken possession of my X8,while having a look over it I noticed a crack in one of the rear wheel spokes. On further inspection all spokes have dents in them, consistent with being hit from behind. The previous owner told me he would put a new tyre on the rear, then said they couldn't get the wheel off.So I need a new wheel.Could someone tell me what other models are compatible with the drum brake rear on my 125.Are seizures like this commonplace?
Thanks in advance.

An X8 shouldn't have drum brakes as far as I know?

Drum brakes were used on the basic 'Street' air cooled X8 125's. Not used on anything else.
THey may be the same as on the smaller Zip/Fly type 'peds.

So I presume the "Street" wasn't a common variant then?

Being air cooled I guess it put people off. I have only ever seen one and that was when they were new in a dealers. All other models share common parts but the air cooled are unique.

looking at the brake mechanism it seems to be attached to the gearbox and from  fiche pictures online a carrier of som description bolts to the wheel.Any chance the carrier is the unique part and the wheel common?

Look at Fowlers website. The X8 Street diagrams completely omit the brake drum but if you look at the Skipper 125 (361) it shows the parts much better. The wheel bolts to the drum  as per usual with 5 bolts and also looks like the drum has a central hub nut to the shaft.
