I ride a lot at night and want to replace my main beam with something like Philips X-treme Vision Moto 12972XVBW Motorcycle Headlamp Bulb H7, but when I took the main beam bulb out (and it'd a right pig to get back in) it only had a single spade connector, the H7s I have seen in the shops all have two spade connectors........
Any advice?
Cheers

There is only one filament so presumably one connector is for an independent earth.

The book says both are H7, but H7 have 2 connectors. H1 have just the one because the body of the bulb and the mounting plate transmit the ground. The lamp itself is earthed and the seating for the bulb is metal. H3's are the same as H1 but shorter and usually have a trailing wire and used mainly in fog lamps. H1 are often used in cars where prism projector lamps are used.

IIRC the two outside bulbs are H7 or hate and the inner cyclops has H1. This is when I was looking at one in replacement for my MP3 400

I will pop it out at the weekend and take a pic. Excellent website for bulbs, I'm now going to try to find H7 Yellow for the main beam for the hell of it.

Just to recap ~ L & R dip beam bulbs are H 8, NOT H7 like the early handbooks say! (My latest handbook [2015] is correct) and they are 35W each. (It's the H7's that are 55W.)
Centre high beam bulb is a H1, single blade connector only, no attached wire(s) (is earthed through mounting flange), and can be Philips X-treme / nightbreaker etc. which is very worthwhile doing. Actually getting at the bulb itself is a whole other can of worms however!

Piaggio still cannot get their handbooks correct can they? They have had serious errors in them since the 250 Honda X9 in 1998, some a loss in translation, others sloppy proofing. I think some relate to conversion to UK spec and slight changes for driving on the left which may require a different bulb type to that used elsewhere and they forget to amend the English manuals initially.
