Hello.

it had to happen at this time next week is the bash weekend and i hope i can fix this.

I have fitted a Leo Vince, the original X8 one was crumbling, with the new one fitted the bike pops on deceleration.

Take off is slower and when riding and throttling off mid throttle it jolts and mid range throttle cause jolts and a gurgle sounds from exhaust.

My original top speed was 75mph its now about 63mph, acceleration from 30mph - 55mph is Very week i now don't have power for any over takes.

With X8 exhaust on everything is fine, so whats going on i am a bit baffled!

just to note the exhaust has no leaked and have checked it with my hands when engine is cold, feeling the joint pipe and head and no blows.

My Leo Vince pops on deceleration as well. But no power or top speed loss though.

When new they come with a set of lighter rollers for some engines. Check out if this is needed for a 125.

Backfiring on deceleration is caused by air leaks. Did you fit a replacement downpipe or just the silencer? Is it possible that the downpipe is too long at it goes into the silencer far enough to meet the internal baffle and cause a blockage? Can you be sure that the Leo Vince is not internally obstructed?

6.5 gram Dr. Pulleys go fine with a Leo on a 125cc X9

Opposite to Solo my X9 125 increased performance after adding the Leo, in the opposite it became more responsive on the throttle, I kept the original downpipe and never had any backfiring or other problems. To improve the sound a bit I removed the noise killer recently what also brought a little more umph.

Hi Solo,when i changed to a Leo Vince on the X9 250,PM Tuning told me i would need to change the rollers,i also fitted new clutch and belt,result much faster off the mark and top end speed lot better.

Hi Thanks for the reply's.

The Leo was 2nd hand, it was on a Piaggio X8 125 and was removed and sold to me, i manage to get it off him for £100, it was fitted brand new to his X8 5 months ago before i got so its almost new, got i got a bargain.

He gave me no rollers with it no, and he mentioned no problems on his X8 with it.

The Leo silencer & down pipe as a complete kit was fitted, and done properly.

since posting i have asked around and most are telling me not to change rollers but to *UP JET* the carb, as its using to much petrol as now the original X8 catalytic exhaust removed and a Free flowing exhaust fitted it can use less petrol but the X8 and carb is set up to be used with the original X8 catalytic exhaust....

~Does this make sense to anyone ?

I have fitted the X8 one back on.....and everything is normal....got leo back on and its back to crap!

I had to lay the bike down as i cant get on the ground or bend my bad leg so bike had to be layed down for me to work on it, grinder in pic is for a suborn bolt

Makes some sense, and if the original Leo owner had it fitted at a dealer, he may not even be aware that they changed the jetting.
A smaller main jet is what you probably need or if it's one of those carbs with a piston and metering needle with variable settings, then extend the needle one click. No idea about the Piaggio carbs though as I've never had anything to do with one.
Old Webber car carbs had numbers on the jets associated with the size and you had thousands of sizes for every jet to chose from. Maybe a browse on ebay for carb jets might find someone selling them or a Google of the problem.

I would have thought the scooter is running weak because the LV has less restriction, particularly without a catalytic converter. In this case lifting the needle ( move the circlip to a lower notch if it has that type of adjustment) will help take off and midrange. Fitting a bigger main jet should help top speed. Having said all that I am surprised the difference was that great. Usually these effects are caused by changes to the air filter rather than the exhaust.

I would be inclined to add or modify the silencer baffle as an easier option than trying to retune the entire fuel system. Interesting that JJ said he kept the original downpipe. Downpipes with a bigger internal diameter can do more to harm single cylinder performance than help it. If the LV fits that description I would try to adapt the LV silencer to the original downpipe.

Possibly try running it for a quick test with the whole air filter cannister removed.  If it's even worse, then the mixture is weak, if it's slightly better then the mixture is rich. Alternatively accelerate hard and hit the kill switch and coast to a stop then remove the spark plug and see if it's sooty or white. Sandy beige is the correct colour, white indicates weak and sooty is rich obviously, but you need to kill the spark after a few seconds of the worst instance in the performance and not let the engine idle before removing the plug.
You are spot on re the front pipe and definitely worth a try if the old pipe is in good condition.

Thanks Dave ill do a plug chop. Taken the exhaust off today and the copper exhaust gasket on head is half missing...
