The amazing properties of epoxy putty.

I might be preaching to the converted, but...

I had not had my X9 long before throwing it down the road. The damage was not too bad but I had broken my right mirror.  Usual occurrence I guess. I ordered a new mirror, but as it was just before Christmas I would have to wait for it to be delivered.

Over the holiday I contemplated the broken mirror, snapped at the base of the stem.  As I was bored I wondered whether I could have a try at sticking it with superglue. No luck. But when I was looking in the kitchen junk drawer for the glue I remembered what I had seen lurking at the back – epoxy putty (unibond power putty doses).

With nothing to loose I moulded some putty around the bottom of the mirror stem and pushed it onto the base of the mirror (the bit which screws into the fairing).  I held it for a few minutes until the putty went off enough to hold it and left it overnight. The next day it was as hard as rock and it had stuck the stem to the base incredibly well – no movement or cracks.

I checked the left mirror on the bike and found that had at some time been repaired with arraldite and a nut and bolt. There was a crack between the two parts and movement. More putty and now its as good as new.

I'll save the new mirror in the box for next time.

I would love to see photos, both my Evo mirrors are snapped, left and right.

At the moment they are held on by 5 layers of Black strengthened webbed masking duck tape, and has been like that ( no movement ) for 5 months but could do with a better solution for the looks.

One of my mirrors was hanging on, so what I did was to drill holes to use 2 cable ties and then mixed some araldite up. Run the araldite around the cable ties and through the holes as well, front and back. No movement at all at the moment, in fact it feels stronger than the unbroken one.

The hard thing is getting it to set ans keeping it still. The previous owner drilled a hole and managed to get a nut and bolt in it. Tie wraps would also work,

Also this is the other damage I did (much to my shame). I managed to buy a new panel on ebay for £20 - any ideas how to unscuff the black plastic part underneath?

I should add that luckily my leg broke most of the scooter's fall!

These are the older style mirrors, not Evo, but the same putty could be used to repair broken top plates on Evo stems.

There is this product from Wurth that might do the job. There are 2 colours, black and grey if not mistaken - you need the grey
