Well, it looks as if Piaggio are finally throwing their resources at something other than 3 wheels and introducing the all new Piaggio X10 in 2012. A little more info can be found at: http://www.twowheelsblog.com/post/8093/2011-eicma-piaggio-x10?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+twowheelsblog%2Fcom+(twowheelsblog)

Does anyone know whether we'll get the 500 over here? Or does anyone have any idea when the X10 will be in the showrooms?
I called Piaggio UK a couple of weeks ago, and a very nice chap told me that they basically had no idea of the answer to either of the questions above. I have seen a few dealers' websites advertising the X10 350 "coming soon", but that's all.
Thanks for any help you ladies and gents can offer.

There is a statement of the Marketing Director of Piaggio Europe about the availability of the X10 models in Europe. Referring to that the X10 125 will be available from April 2012 at the shops and the X10 350 and X10 500 from June / July 2012

Thanks, JJ.
What puzzles me is that dealers over here (UK) seem to be showing details and prices for the X10 350, but not the 500, which makes me wonder whether we'll get the 500 in the UK.
(For info, we don't get the same range of models in the UK as are available in continental Europe.)

As far as I know the new X10 models will be sold all over the world the same, even in the USA where Piaggio cancelled their sales for some modes in 2008 / 2009

I hope so, JJ. I'd like the chance to at least test ride an X10 500.
And, with the new TMax, the Integra, and the BMW coming to the UK this summer, I'd certainly hope Piaggio would bring the 500 over here, but, for instance, we don't have the Nexus 500 available in the UK, and the GP 800 was on sale for a while, but hasn't been available new over here for some time.
Perhaps Piaggio think that we're such a small island that we don't need bigger scoot's.
It's the two-tier Europe in operation. I blame Brussels ;0)

I was told that the X10 125 will not be made yet, and the factory are building Xevo 125's in week 19 this year. I did have one on order (Xevo) but cancelled it, I did not want to wait. I have now sold the VanVan and brought a S-wing 125 (white 2012 model). It is a great little scoot, I got £500 off the list price and also got £330 more in the trade in price of VanVan than the Piaggio dealer was offering. The X10 350 will be available in a few weeks in the UK.

A fully equipped BMW can easily become 13500 + Euros, compared to that 7.999 Euros ( introduction price here, later 8.499 Euros ) for a Piaggio X10 500 are a real bargain

The BMW GTs, with High Line pack (i.e. all the extras) will be £10,529 on the road over here. The first batch of UK bikes will all be High Line spec. Both GTs and Sports.
That makes the X10 good value, as you say. BUT I'm far from sure that we'll get the X10 500s over here. I'm seeing dealer prices of just under £5,000 being quoted for the X10 350, but nothing on the X10 500s.
The X10 appears to be priced at the same sort of relative price point as the X9. That is, it's a premium price in the Piaggio range, but it's a decent amount cheaper than a TMax/Burgman.

Whilst it may be argued that some bikes seem overpriced, let's not forget that you don't get something for nothing.
Is a big bike selling at below £5000 going to be as well made? Italian bikes may have style (outwardly), but what about reliability and longevity??

Not sure what you're trying to say, Colin. I think under £5k for an X10 350 is decent value. I expect the X10 500 (if we ever get it) to be good value as well.
And, based on my 7 yr old X9, I'd also expect the X10s to be reliable and to have a long life.
I don't think the BMW is good value, but that's not what BMW are trying to do. It looks good, and I expect it to be a well-made scooter. It's designed to fill a slightly different niche to the other large scooters, and you'll pay more for it because it's a BMW and that's what their brand is about.

What I'm saying is that, whilst a high price tag is not necessarily a guarantee that a product is well designed and made, one can't expect lasting perfection from something built to be sold at a much lower price. I'm pleased that your X9 has served you well. Mine was also generally reliable, but it did require new head bearings, swing arm assembly and exhaust. It also came with a brake disc that was correctly aligned (faulty wheel casting I was told). It also looked its age. My Burgman however (now of similar age) has suffered no mechanical failures (OK a throttle cable snapped on the M25), nothing has had to be replaced* and (given a little clean up) would stand proudly beside a new one. You get what you pay for, but you don't if you don't. You know what I mean. "Value" is down to the buyer's perception. * Other than normal service items.

Ah, sorry: think I understand, now. Glad you've been happy with the Burgman. I know lots of people speak highly of them.
Happiness is what it's all about, isn't it? Some people will get such a degree of incremental happiness from having the BMW badge that the new BMW scooter will be value for money in their eyes. And then you have the people for whom a single feature (e.g. seat height, or storage capacity) is so important that [any] type of bike (possibly the only one having that feature) is good value at any price.
I know it's just my personal view, but based on our two scoot's, I think that Vespa/Piaggio give a decent ratio of quality-to-price. We're both happy with what we got, considering the price we paid for them. Whilst, on the other hand, there are plenty of others who think Vespa/Piaggio are overpriced and unreliable.

a decent ratio of quality-to-price. Plus faith in the marque. Of course, a lot depends upon the dealer - pre and post delivery. All factors in one's sense of "value".

I have always been an X9 fan but over the years like many others I have changed my marque. I now have a 2011 model SYM GTS Evo 300 @ at a cost of £3,800 otr and to me it is easily as good as the X9. It is well built, usual things on the digidash, low seat (ideal for me) etc. with a 3yr warranty. They have just recently brought out the 400 and a 600 is due out later this year. Certainly worth a look at for anyone looking for a new bike.

To be honest, when I bought the X9, I had no real knowledge of the Piaggio brand and no more or less faith in it than in any other brand (remember - my first scooter was a Benelli!).
My experiences since purchase have given me a good impression of the brand, but, as you say, a lot of that was built on very good service from JT's at the time.
It's all so personal. I know some people who'd never have an Italian bike, and others who'd never have a Japanese bike (and loads who'd never have a Taiwanese bike - despite the rave reviews that some of the Syms and Kymco's have. In fact, I'm sure there will be people buying the BMW who'd swear blind they'd never have a Korean bike - despite the engine being developed together with Kymco!)

The Syms look good, Joyce. And a mechanic was singing the praises of the Kymco 300's to me the other day (exhaust gasket needed replacing on the X9). If they had a better dealer network around here, I imagine I'd see a lot more of them on the road. Both makers look to be making quite nice looking scooters with a high spec, at a low price.
But what I really want to know is: will we get X10 500's in the UK, and, if so, when?
