When you turn the ignition on, does it go through the motions like fuel pump priming etc? When was it last started?

Yep does all that, fuel pump whirres, code light goes out, engine management light goes out so just the oil light is left on - have checked the brake switches and sprayed a bit od WD40 on them - The side stand isolater is working OK as is the kill switch on the bars - Just sems like the start button is doing nothing.

The brake lights are actually lighting?
If so then find the starter solenoid and using either some stout cable or a pair of fine nose pliers, bridge the two large cable connectors on the top and see if the starter turns just to eliminate it. If so then the problem is either the kill switch circuit or the button/relay itself.
If the immobiliser LED is going out and staying out if the Xevo is like the X9 500, the kill switch circuit is fine as otherwise it keeps flashing.
Therefore it must be either the starter button (bridge the wires to check) or the relay itself.
If you can start it by bridging the starter relay while Holding in a brake lever with the ignition on (you'll need an assistant) then run it for a while until warmed up thoroughly, then see if it starts normally, in which case maybe it was damp somewhere, and regular use should see it OK again. Or at least you can get it to your favourite dealer.

Well by way of an update my ever helpfull dealer could not get the bike picked up yesterday so it fell to me to get it there, no courtesy bike available as they do not run demo's in the winter and the upshot is that the starter motor is shot - Can't belive my luck with this thing - less than a year old with 6k on the clock - If it gets fixed by the weekend, it will be chopped in against a 650 Bandit i have my eye on - Sorry guys and gals i did give it a fair chance but i just can't rely on it.
Hope it is OK to hang around though even if i dont have the scoot anymore ??

Thanks Barry, if things had gone different i would stick with it - just cant get my head round the fact that mine and Loony's were sold a couple of weeks apart and she has not had a spot of bother with it - I did call Piaggio today just to see what their response was and was told by some area manager that if i did not like the product or service - go somewhere else !! - What kind of customer service is that !! - Oh well I do appreciate all the help and advise you people have given me - Many thanks

Thats about what you get from Piaggio, disgusting customer service as its been for years. A decent dealer would have given you a whole different experiance though... be happy in the knowledge that they are losing sales and dealers very quickly, and possibly customers too

The stupid thing is Barry that they actually do have a good product and it is basic things that seem to be keeping them rom doing better than they could - Perhaps it is us - this might be how the Itallians are treated and they put up with it - Who knows?

Bad news Kev and typical of Piaggio.

They seem to have given up on the UK - Slashing dealers (good ones as well as bad), pricing the Fuoco at £6.5k, removing the MP3 125,LT's, Nexus and GP800 from the range.

However, I'm really impressed that you actually got someone to pick up the phone at PiaggioUK.

Good luck with the Bandit Kev.

Mine started fine yesterday morning after sitting outside in all the snow for at least 3 weeks. Was fine this morning too.... Chalk/cheese come to mind with mine and yours scoots. I am glad I took mine to CT rather than Palmers though for it's 6000 service....  fingers crossed it doesn't change it's mind and become a nightmare like yours.

I was actually really enjoying the ride to work this morning despite the rain and greasy roads. It still feels just so "right" for me to ride. Sorry you had that experience with yours.... I guess there's always a bad egg, looks like unfortunately you got it.
