Michelin City Grip are the flavour of the month. Replacements for the old Gold Standards.
I also like the Pilot Sports and the Pirelli GTS.

I've City Grips on front and back - as good a tyre as I've experienced on wet manhole covers - a definite improvement over the Gold Standards in this aspect

I'm going to go for the city grips when I get to that stage, I'm not a big fan of MGS on the X8/Evo. When a bit worn give 0 confidence in the wet. Mine are currently at 5000 miles and haven't reached the scary stage yet, but I'm going to change early if I feel them getting less grippy.

Glad you've had a good experience of the City grips on the XEvo Esmond, that's reassuring.

Why not try radials?
I tried the Battlax TH01's on the X9 a few sets ago and it transformed it. Pity they are now so expensive or I'd keep using them. You have to use a 160/60 rather than 150/70 on the rear but it fits and the overall diameter is little different. I think you can get Pilot Sport Radials in 14" though. I have them on the Nexus and they are equally good.

I have the City Grip on the rear, it has slipped in light rain the once but the MGS on the front never seems happy unless its sliding :oits now done around 15,000 kms and still has a fair bit left in it... looks like Ill be scared all autumn/winter!

That'd be too big as the rear tyres are only 140 not 150, plus with the speedo sensor on the rear wheel on the Xevo it might effect the readings quite a bit to go to a 160. I went to a 150/70 on the X8 but it only just fit and rubbed slightly on the right hand spring.

City grip sounds a good option. Once i start getting scared I'll be changing. I'd rather spend the cash and change early than be terrified all winter.

I have finally put a new set of city grips on my Xevo and you can feel a big difference in handling and grip. I had a GT24 on the back and still had gold stanard on the front. I think I'll be keeping the city grip on the bike in the future

Yes, I'm very happy (read ecstatic) with the city grip on the rear of my scoot. All winter it performed fantastically. I got so much more confidence in it in the wet and on slimy roads than I ever had even on a reasonably new MGS...

... can't wait to get the front MGS changed for a new City grip. It's only done 8000 so probably got another 4000 or so in it, but I'm going to change it before the winter whether or not it's actually worn out as already I'm starting to feel the nervousness of a half worn MGS on the front end...

I changed my front at 20,000 And there was another 1,000 left in it but was sick of having very little grip in the wet

That's a rear one isn't it. If I keep the scoot I'll be needing a new front one...
