it's actually now counting up from when the light came on

Yes, X9s do that, too.

Glad your having such a good time with the new bike, Carmen.

Thanks Mike. I'm not used to gadgets on a bike, of course X9-ers are. The X8 was entirely analogue, and so was every scooter and bike I've ever had!! well, the Aprilia had an LCD clock that never worked... but apart from that... ahem.

Well I filled up this morning after finally finishing the first full tank of fuel through the XEvo (the crappy weather and busy weekends have stopped me riding it as much as I would have). It was a bit nerve wracking as the fuel light had come on before I got home the last time I rode it but the fuel trip meter resets itself everytime the fuel light goes on/off so therefore because I'd turned the ignition off it had gone back to 0 (that's a bit crap and annoying).

I couldn't remember how many miles I'd done with the fuel light on before so I guessed at 5 miles and thought I'd fill up at a specific garage near work. 17 miles later I get to the garage... and  it's closed!!! Eek it was the last fuel stop before work and my gauge was reading below E....  first tank of fuel and no idea how many miles she'd do. So I decided instead of going to work and having the worry of restarting the scoot and perhaps running out of fuel later I'd go to a sainsbury's garage, taking a detour. Well I made it, filled up and only put 10.63 litres in so I actually had over a litre left.  Clap

174.8 miles to the very first tankful of super unleaded. Hugely impressed with that as, as you can see from my siggy that equals over 74mpg!! I have to admit I've not been running it in by the book and have given it some high speed sections... but tried not to push too hard for too long so I've probably not been riding quite as fast as I'd usually ride - but still I'm very impressed with the economy. I think it's going to smoke my X8 on average mpg!

That's the best way to run in an engine, especially with CVT that cushions the load to a degree.

The fuel trip resetting is annoying but now you at least know the safe top up mileage.

Yes, of course I had some idea from the X8 that I could do a certain mileage after the fuel light came on but you never know with a new scoot especially as it's so new and still running in.

I was always pleased with the mpg from the X8 but I knew other X8 400 owners and XEvo owners who seemed to get better economy - perhaps my X8 was just on the lower end of the scale. I think that one was run in by the book, so perhaps my faster riding will actually be good for the XEvo. She certainly doesn't seem to be complaining. It seems a lot easier to go faster on this one without realising.

You probably know this already now but the fuel trip DOESN'T reset itself when you turn the ignition off.
You get a few false alarms when the fuel level is close to the reserve sensor (cornering and rapid ac/deceleration can be enough to register a false positive), so the warning light and trip meter will come on and go off a few times. You can squeeze 60km/37miles out of the reserve but personally I never try to push more than 50km out of it.

Cheers esmond B. Yes the first time it must have been a false alarm.

Are you still enjoying your Xevo?

Loving mine the X8 was good but the Xevo is better. I want to upgrade the horn though which is the next job, just like the X8 the XEvo's is fairly pathetic. It sounds alright when you stand next to it with no helmet on but put a helmet on (or sit in a car) and it comes across as a meep sound!

Hi Kev, I live in Waltham Cross so about 30 minutes east on the M25.

It's now almost exactly 1 month since I picked up the XEvo and I've managed 789 miles. Am I happy... YES!! It was a good decision I think to upgrade the X8 that I was so fond of. The XEvo is a more refined version of an already good scooter. I hope we have many happy miles together!

Yes, I traded in my YP400 Yammy - The Xevo is much more smooth and refined that the Yam - I have done 250 miles since last Saturday and loved every mile so far !

It wasn't a burgandy YP400 was it? There was one in the workshop with the panels off when I went to pick up the Xevo and it was still there on Monday when I went for the first service. Apparently they can't figure out what's wrong with it.

I've not ridden the Yp400 but I had an old YP250 a while back. Interesting that you think the Piaggio is more smooth and refined than the yam as I'd assume most would think the Jap bike would be better. Have to say though the 400cc engine is a real peach of a powerhouse I love it hence I stuck with it!

Good to have another enthusiastic Xevo owner around - a lot of the time I'm the only one posting in this section. Me and Dave Milnes who's always very helpful at answering daft questions!

Yep thats my bike in bits - They agreed the trade in price and then the dam thing gave up the ghost a week later after 4 years of trouble free running -(It must of known it was on the way out!) - They think they have nailed it down to the fuel pump - It starts fine but when you try to give it any beans it just has no power - Oh well I still have a bill coming to put it right on top of the cost of the new bike - Looks like bread and dripping for a few weeks then !

That's good to know Esmond!  Impressive mileage, how long have you had yours now? I've had mine since 22nd March so a month today.

My commute is 17 miles so even if I take it to work every single working day of the year (and I do occasionally use a car for various reasons) I'd only rack up just under 9000 miles in a year. I do ride for pleasure sometimes but unfortunately don't get too much of a chance!

, In this case at least one mistake was caused by the manual!

I started a thread with the correct bulbs for the Xevo (and X8) as the manual is rubbish. It's pinned in this section if you ever need it or want to add to it.

Actually a topic dedicated to bulb types for every model would be a good idea.
I could cover the X9 for every bulb possible, if someone could do likewise for X8/X7/Xevo/Nexus/Fuocco/MP3 then the other non Italian bikes as well.
If no one person can know about all bulbs on each model, I can always edit all posts into one definitive for each model.

I think someone's done the Silverwing ones on another forum. I'll have a look today and report back.
