Calling anyone who's near North London and especially anyone attending at the Ace tomorrow morning for brekkie, I'm grovelling for a favour.
I need to borrow (or even buy) a 19mm hex key, so I can undo the front wheel axle on my TDM, as I'm sending off the forks for rechroming and need to strip them down this weekend.
Everywhere I've looked wants circa £20 for a jumbo hex key set and I can't seem to find anywhere local that can supply the single hex key.
Given I need it for (hopefully) only 5 mins to undo the front wheel, plus another 5 mins in 2-3 weeks time when I get the newly chromed forks back, I'd rather not spend so much.
So if anyone can lend me one or has a spare individual key I can purchase or maybe knows somewhere I could pick one up this Sat I'd be really gratful.
Thanks very much

Any bike dealer should have a 'multi-tool' with four large hex sections for about a fiver. You then use a socket on the other end. Very standard bike kit.

You might not even need one to get the wheel out. If you leave the lock screws nipped while you release the nut on the end of the axle, then slacken them and tap the shaft out.

Thanks Dave I'll take a look but I'm pretty sure that the axle bolts directly into the base of the r h fork and there's no nut I can undo, certainly looks that way on the workshop manual, but I haven't had a close look yet.
Tried Jims suggestion and called some local bike dealers (Slocombes, Rex Judd, Southern Cross) but they either don't do tools or don't have one in stock. I did get a strong recommendation for a bike spares place that's very local, but would you believe they shut on a Fri afternoon, so I'll have to call them in the morning.

Martyn, if I remember I'll buy one in the morning at CBS Whitton and bring it to the Ace. Alarm clocks willing etc...

Sorry I thought it was an X9. Read again...TDM so I guess it's similar to the Tmax where the axle passes through the RH strut and screws into the LH strut directly. I found a bolt with the right size head to fit in the axle and with a short spacer under the head, locked it with a pair of nuts tightened so their flats lined up. Using this and a socket I managed to get the axle out. Jim's solution is probably better though!
