Attention AOL users!
It has become necessary (again, it was suspended) to block AOL users who use the AOL proxy servers from using these forums. The AOL proxy servers are automatically used when you enter this site via the AOL portal, thus hiding the true IP address of the user. The actual IP address is needed to manage trolls and miscreants. The block will come into effect soon, so re-organise now please.
So instead of using the AOL portal, just use another browser. If using Internet Explorer, ensure that no AOL proxy server is configured. This setting can be found under Tools/Internet Options/Connections/LAN - ensure the "Use proxy server" check-box is unticked. Alternative browsers such as Firefox and Opera will not be pre-configured.
Those AOL users on dial-up or using an ADSL USB modem should still connect to the Internet using the AOL software as normal, but then switch to a browser as above. Those with modem/routers will be automatically connected anyway.
AOL users may well find the above method enables them to see more of the Internet as many websites block AOL proxies by default - so no bad thing then.
