I have an alarm for my X8 400, :
Part number 602688M
and the extra harness needed:
Part number 602691M004
I have done a 'dry run', everything seems right, all the wires/scockets and snap fasteners work out as per instructions except for I have on black/blue wire on the new harness spare.
For this reason I have not fitted the alarm, incase it should be connected, or if I did find a place for it, it may be wrong and fry something expencive.
Any one have any idea's please?
The extra loom packet says its for Beverly 125/200/250, but that does not surprise me as looking on the parts catologue for the X8 400 several other components have been brought over to the X8 too, and my dealer assures me its correct, so this extra wire may be something specific to the Beverly and not on the X8.
Also, when I unplug the main loom from the ignition will I loose my 'memory' for the ignition lock/key and have to re-programme with the master key?

I wouldn't have thought the key programming would be affected at all as the code is stored even when the battery is removed as it's an EEPROM. If you have the master key it's not an issue anyway.
If your dealer is adamant it is correct but you don't trust him, I suggest you ride to your dealers and plug it in there, then if anything fries, the bike is in the right place to repair, and the dealer should take responsibility if it is incorrect.
In theory, surplus wires shouldn't be a problem, as anything not connected can't be a problem, it's when something is connected but shouldn't be that the problems occur.
If the loom is common to a range of bikes, the spare wire could simply be for use on one of those which has a circuit not found on your X8.
If everything is a simple plug'n'play and the part numbers are correct, you have no worries. It's not like when you have to splice into wires and use dreaded scotchlok connectors.
Another thought...is the spare wire simply the aerial for the remote transmitter?

Thanks for that advice, I was more concearned that something may not work if the loose wire is not connect to somewhere and I cant see where its suppose to go.
Its definatley not the ariel, that is the only other loose wire and that has a cap fitted to the end.
I may leave it for now until I have moved 'south' incase I run into problems and cant ride it off the Isles.

Good idea, I mean who's going to nick it on the Island?
Which side is the loose wire on, the bike or the alarm? If on the alarm side I would be even more confident it was for a circuit on another bike the loom also fits.

Its on the new 'bridgeing' loom that fits between the main loom and the alarm, so I'm inclined to think the same, ta.
