Yes where I am at the mo (South Essex) the water is so hard it has chemicals added to it to make it softer, but which also attacks brass, very handy if you got taps with brass innards! So said my regular plumber anyway. So I'd have to buy distilled water in any event. In fact I've got some to make up screen wash for the car in case I haven't bought ready-mix, not putting tap water in that either!

PS (edit): I'll agree the warranty is problee as much use as a chocolate fireguard...  

I'm suppose to be moving soon so would be very awkward to take it back to the dealer that sold it to me anyway.

We have lovely soft quite neutral water here in the NW but with additional cryptosporidium at times. Never did me any harm though.
In the car for screenwash I use a squirt of washing up liquid and a dash of meths in winter per refill. The meths stops it freezing to a degree and the washing up liquid cuts the muck. There used to be salts in it but no sodium on the labels any more and as it soon gets washed off by the incessant rain which probably contains far higher levels of nasty stuff.
