Title: Erratic speedo and rev counter dials Post by: parnell on May 02, 2022, 08:58:19 So my beloved Xevo 400 is coming up on 50tkm - its been great - but last week I noticed that the dash is behaving a bit erratically with the speed and rev counter dials bouncing around a bit - and the low oil pressure light occassionally coming on for a couple of seconds. I checked the oil level - all fine of course but this morning the MOT invitation letter came from the local Swiss authorities. Im guessing its a little bit of water in the fuses or at the contacts for the digidash but it's been so long since I've heard from anyone here I thought I'd see what the clever forum people think.
Thanks as always , Rob Title: Re: Erratic speedo and rev counter dials Post by: unchained on May 02, 2022, 09:06:25 Hi Rob,
It does sound like a connection issue to me as well, could be water, corrosion or just loose. Give them all a good clean, including any earthing cables, and hopefully it will solve your issues. Title: Re: Erratic speedo and rev counter dials Post by: Dave Milnes on May 02, 2022, 09:42:51 Would it affect the MOT, it probably wouldn't in the UK as long as they can read the odometer. Probably just a dry connection.

Probably just a dry connection. Sadly yes - they're very particular in dear old Switzerland - I read in the workshop manual that it wasn't the oil pressure light that came on for a bit but the "Engine control telltale light and injection system failure warning light" - this light normally comes on for a couple of seconds after I turn the ignition key to on but I wait for it to go out before I press the starter button. I also read on a vespa forum that it might be the voltage regulator on the way out.Title: Re: Erratic speedo and rev counter dials Post by: parnell on May 03, 2022, 07:06:39 Think I have it sorted - corrosion on one of the battery terminals - 70 mile ride coming on Thursday will tell. thank you all!
Title: Re: Erratic speedo and rev counter dials Post by: Dave Milnes on May 03, 2022, 10:04:55 Good, battery connection can create problems. You were also right in that regulator failure resulting in over-voltage can also have similar effects.
In the early days of the X9 regulator failure was a common problem but seems to have been much less of an issue since on newer models.
