Title: European vs North American
Post by: Scott_From_Canada on July 27, 2015, 22:24:18
I recently picked up a 2006 X9 500 Evolution and I'm finding it difficult to find parts sometimes.  Previous owner laid it on its side and I'm trying to return it to its former glory (or close too).  My online searches usually end up taking me to European websites.  While the shipping isn't cheap, at least I can find parts.  The question/concern I have is that I'll pay to have these parts sent over the ocean, then they won't fit/work because I have the North American version.  Is there a lot that's different between the two, or are the parts pretty much interchangeable?

Thanks

Try searching for Aprillia Atlantic or Scarabeo or (Beverley) B500. Oil filters are the same on all 500cc Piaggio/Gilera/Aprillia motors as it's the same motor. Air filter is from a 1980's VW golf 1.6 with carburettors.
For belts use the genuine Piaggio ones, again as used on the bikes above. Actual part numbers are on the website (buttons top of the screen). You should be able to get most stuff over there.
If you do end up shipping them in, buy multiples as even if you don't use them they will easily sell on to others in your position. All parts are identical from Europe to the US/Canada. You just have a few gadgets missing!

Thanks!  What about things like fairings, mirrors, etc?  I'm not planning on replacing all of them right away as most of them are still good enough for my purposes, but I do want to eventually get it in "like new" condition.

From what I've found, the side mirrors are a very difficult item to find, no matter where in the world you are.  Do you happen to know if there are aftermarket ones that will fit?

No aftermarket ones, but there was a company Wemoto that sold what appeared to be identical ones (seconds?) for half the cost, but they don't have them any more.
When the pound is strong against the Euro there is a dutch company called Easyparts.nl that do all parts plus they used to sell a complete replacement body set, not OEM and with a very slightly tweaked (more aggressive) appearance for quite a lot less than OEM panels cost. Available in several colours originally but less choice later on.

Say there, Scott. Where are you in Canada. I'm on the Island(BC) and have a 500Evo 2006/7. I've no Spares but life-of-the-bike info -yes! I think my email-address will come up for you with this. Cheers, David.
