Title: For pitys sake HELP!!!!
Post by: Cyberdave on May 26, 2015, 21:43:31
Decided to have the wheels and stands on my Xevo 250 powder coated.
Just about EVERY bolt is seized into the Aluminium wheels.
Worst of all the pin through the centre stand WILL NOT budge.  It's so corroded into pace that the head snapped off the pin before it would turn with a spanner!  I've used easing oil, heated the ally under the engine, put a hardened 8mm bar into the hole and thraped it with a big ball pein, a big brickies hammer and a 12LB sledgehammer all to no avail it will NOT move!!!javascript:void(0);   I'm really beginning to wonder if I should just put a hammer right through the feckin thing!!!!!!!!
PLEASE PUT ME OUT OF MY MISERY.  Is the centre stand pin threaded into either the engine casing or the stand itself????

I've heard this can be quite common, steel bolts in alloy, dissimilar metals create an electrolysis type effect that promotes corrosion of the alloy. Siezed steel bolts in alloy can be VERY stubborn. There is a well known such case for old Moto Guzzi twins' front engine mounting bolt, which gets all the crap from the front tyre, ideally this needs to be removed, cleaned and greased at yearly intervals.

For an anti-seize agent, one reccomendation is a 50/50 mix of acetone (= nail varnish remover) and ATF (automatic transmission fluid) ~ but problee need to let it soak for a while.
