Title: X10 350 horn amps ? Post by: APH1967 on February 17, 2016, 13:05:58 Afternoon All,
I have purchased a Denali Soundbomd which draws 20amps. On my X9 I just fitted to existing wiring without a relay. Will I be able to do the same for X10 ? 😃😃😃 Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? Post by: Dave Milnes on February 17, 2016, 15:59:02 Are you questioning as to whether the wiring is less robust on newer models, or if the X10 has a relay already?
I would guess if it worked on the X9, unless the wiring is significantly thinner gauge it should work fine on the X10. Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? So looks like you will need another one of the smaller relays to replace the original horn. And most of the X10 wiring does indeed look like the 'new' (?) thin stuff so seperate wires direct from the battery might be prudent. And its own fuse, there's no fuse in the fusebox rated to take 20 Amps, so it follows most of the loom won't either. Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? Post by: roadster on February 18, 2016, 08:50:15 The horn circuit goes through two fuses.
No. 9 is the all purpose 30 amp fuse to the ignition switch etc. No. 5 7.5 amp is specific to certain circuits including indicators and horn. So fuse 5 definitely won't be suitable. A relay is therefore essential and the low current side can be substituted for the original horn. My recommendation would be to wire the power side with an in line fuse connecting it directly to the battery terminal but you could get away with a feed which still utilized the 30 amp main fuse as its not a continuous load. I'll try to add the circuit diagram via the gallery. http://www.x9gallery.co.uk/home/displayimage.php?pid=12944 (http://www.x9gallery.co.uk/home/displayimage.php?pid=12944) (http://www.x9gallery.co.uk/home/albums/userpics/10056/normal_horn3.JPG) Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? Post by: APH1967 on February 18, 2016, 22:59:51 I have obtained the horn wiring loom which incorporates a relay and fuse. I'm fitting luggage rack at the weekend so might as well remove some more bodywork while I'm at it !
I was suspicious of the wiring hence the question. Much appreciated as always. Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? Post by: APH1967 on February 21, 2016, 16:39:07 Getting there slowly.....
I am sorting the exposed rear loom and fitting new rack as well as routing power feed for horn to the front. Removing the bodywork is a great puzzle game ! I will take some photos when sorted. Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? Post by: Mike H on February 22, 2016, 12:15:52 It certainly is.
But do it two or three times and you'll be whizzing the panels off and back on again like a pro :D What I will say tho is be very careful not to break off the plastic 'popper' tabs, and DO grease all the spring clips that are fitted on the tabs as they do rust, then they're a total pig to pull out the holes and is usually how the tabs get broken. Post by: APH1967 on February 23, 2016, 07:36:27 I was forever doing that with brake light on the X9. Not quite as inconvenient though.
:D Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? Post by: APH1967 on February 23, 2016, 19:10:49 Power run from battery to front fairing.
OE horn removed. New horn loom connected. Just horn to mount tomorrow then see how loud it is ...... :UK: Title: Re: X10 350 horn amps ? Post by: APH1967 on February 26, 2016, 21:33:25 LOUD !
