Title: Piaggio X10 Evolution
Post by: Solo on July 14, 2015, 23:55:55
Hi guys.

You know with piaggio X range they always brought an evolution version out of there bikes, like the X9 evolution after the normal X9 and then the X8 had a evolution upgrade with the Xevo.

Will the X10 be having a evolution model ?

Hello mate, I don't know about a X10 Evo but over in Castleford, Castle Motorcycles have had a silver 2013 350 X10 in their showroom for quite, that is if you're now ready to move up.  :)

Exactly. They need to sell a few first. Compared to the X9 the X10 has been a very poor UK seller. The latest licence system hasn't helped and bike sales generally, plus I suspect the poor reputation of some Piaggios for reliability that has not got better since the X9, have persuaded original Piaggio riders onto something else.
I mean how many of the 2002 to 2008 original X9 owners on here still have an X9? Apart from me, Poldark and Solo...none and I am possibly the only one still on here who has the one they bought new back then.

Back in 2002 X9 250SL and 500SL's sold as fast as dealers could get them and a lot updated to the Evo after 2004 but few went on to further Piaggios after that or if they did, didn't keep them long before heading to Suzuki or Honda. The 250Evo enticed a few to stick with the brand but they drifted off eventually.

I don't think anyone who bought a new Nexus 500 ever bought a second!

I've still got my X9 Evo 500, bought 'new' in December 2006, 2004 plate  stored for 2 years, 10 miles on the clock. Runs most days and done ~20K miles. Not starship mileage I grant you.

Would I go for the X10 ? interesting question, however, this forum has been a rich source of information and reference over the years so long may it continue....and the X9!

It seems that the first 'basic' X10's (2012?) did not have ABS + ASR, then there came the 'Executive' higher equipped version, which did. Now it seems that all new X10's have ABS + ASR and the 'Executive' moniker has been dropped. In other words ABS + ASR have become 'standard equipment'. But of course it's an EU directive isn't it for all new bikes to have ABS.

So when I bought my new one, as in new in 2015, there was nary a mention of the 'Executive' moniker in the advertising blurbs, so I was a bit non-plussed as to whether that means it doesn't have the ABS + ASR. But no, it does of course.

Quite what else you could add to it to make it an 'Evo' I'm not sure.

Unless it's a styling change, like what 'facelift' means for cars.

But yes X10 still quite rare on UK roads at the mo. But does get oggled at by all sorts of folks. And it's a bird puller!  :D

Evo on the X9 was, on the face of it a styling exercise, but under the skin there was a lot of small but significant changes most of which were improvements. Later models after Piaggio entered the US market were actually less good with some gadgets removed.
